Работа с цветом в «Рассказе служанки»

Я посмотрел два сезона «Рассказа служанки». Вот что думаю о том, как там играют с цветом.

Сериал о тоталитарном обществе, суть которого в порабощении женщин, способных к беременности. В одно время возникла проблема с рождаемостью и большинство женщин оказались бесплодными. Чтобы выжить, обществу надо как-то вертеться, придумали такую беспощадную штуку.

До сути и философских вопросов можно добраться в другой раз. Хочу поговорить о работе с цветом в этом сериале. Мне показалось, что цвет здесь использовали не просто так, а для передачи смысла. Это надо разобрать.

Дисклеймер. Я не профессионал, и даже не любитель, обычный зритель. Просто посмотрел сериал, понравилось, как выглядит картинка, пытаюсь это как-то выразить. Чтобы не использовать в каждом предложении «как мне показалось», «я думаю», «по моему мнению», примем это как факт — то, что вы читаете, это мнение одного человека.

В сериале есть три основных цвета: зеленый, красный и черный. В эпизодах есть немного желтого, о нем поговорим в конце.

Зеленый

Все-таки без объяснения сюжета не обойтись, иначе не раскроем смысл. Женщины в зеленых платьях — это те, кто оказался бесплоден, но сохранил привилегированное положение в новом обществе. В основном, жены тех, кто пришел к власти.

Цвет их одежды и даже стен в доме — внутренний конфликт. С одной стороны, они жестоко обращаются со своими служанками в красном, чтобы получить от них детей; с другой — внутри они им сопереживают или считают, что все это перебор. Такая жесткая темно-зеленая природа, вроде бы заботливая, но в то же время действующая стихийно, из своих интересов.

Зеленый цвет сопровождает картинку почти весь фильм. Это такой цемент, который скрепляет тоталитарную систему. Всё вокруг безжизненное и болотно-зеленое.

Черный

За этот цвет отвечают спецслужбы и чиновники — командоры. У них все четко выверено, действуют строгие правила

Спецслужбы пользуются абсолютной властью: им подчиняются все, в том числе и командоры. У командоров в подчинении их семья. Их слушаются жены, служанки и прислуга на кухне. Черный цвет передает тут подчинение, абсолютный контроль, страх.

Красный

Красные платья носят те самые служанки. Их роль в обществе — выносить ребенка своей госпожи в зеленом. Цвет передает их функцию — эти женщины единственные, оставшиеся плодородными. В общем, это цвет крови, жизни.

За женщинами следит охрана, а передвигаются они только по парам

Эти женщины как кровь, которая гоняет жизнь по безжизненному тоталитарному механизму. Цвет говорит: это — жизнь, вокруг них — запустение и холодная смерть.

Немного желтого

В двух сериях показывают быт колонии для провинившихся женщин. Туда ссылают за все, даже незначительные проступки: нахамила командору, слишком сильно улыбалась, прочитала библию.

Картинка этих серий вся песочная, темно-желтая, пыльная. Женщины-заключенные работают на каких-то — авторы этого не объясняют — рудниках. Настроение, которое передает эта картинка, — безысходность, страдание. При просмотре даже становится душно.

Обычно желтый цвет — цвет жары, духоты, засухи. Именно эту эмоцию и создают кадры из колонии.
